How did the NPSFL Begin? In 1996, law enforcement representatives from Houston, Dallas, Tampa, San Diego, New York, Los Angeles and West Palm Beach met in St. Louis, Mo. The National Law Enforcement Football League(NLEFL) was formed. The league's first season was spring of 1997; but, due to a lack of funds, there was no championship game. The 1998 season saw the league expand to allow firefighters also and the league was re-named the National Public Safety Football League, the NPSFL. The regular season winners were the NYPD Finest and the Houston Police Gunners who played the championship game in Washington D.C as part of National Police Week. Today, three of the original seven teams (Houston, NYPD, and LAPD) are still in the league. Dallas has gone through many changes, with the city expanding to three teams. And, San Diego, has returned after going through some changes of its' own. Click on a team below to get a brief history and learn more about what they do and who they support...
